About this opportunity:

Announcing an exciting opportunity to develop high-performance radio access network (RAN) computing systems!

At Baseband Infrastructure (BBI), our mission is to provide a state-of-the-art Software Development Kit (SDK) to the thousands of Ericsson software (SW) developers who develop applications for high-performance System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions used in Ericsson RAN products.

The BBI SDK targets SW development for the Ericsson Manycore Architecture (EMCA) and it consists of a lightweight many-core operating system, middleware libraries, developer tools (compiler, linker, debugger, code analysis, performance analysis, etc.) and an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The tools in the SDK are based on open-source projects and technologies such as Linux, Clang/LLVM, Bazel, GDB, etc.

A fundamental part of the SDK is the EQMH (Equipment Module Handler). The EQMH software runs both on the main processor (CPM) and on EMCA subsystems. It consists of a set of components that handle low-level fault-tolerance aspects of baseband systems such as recovery in case of unexpected events, low-level configuration, loading of application software, power management, and execution control. At load time, the EQMH also configures several parameters in the baseband executable software to adapt the software to the environment in which it is loaded. EQMH contains command-line (COLI) tools as well that help users understand deployment and control execution of baseband computing abstractions.

We are now looking for a developer to join the EQMH team and contribute to the evolution of EQMH software. Currently the team is intensely engaged in the development of the Evolved Virtual Machine (eVM) architecture that enables baseband modularization and efficient utilization of EMCA subsystems. A constant work in the team is to adapt and scale EQMH software towards new EMCA-based products. This role includes all development activities such as collecting and analyzing requirements, systemization, design, prototyping, test, integration, and deployment.

In BBI, we follow the Agile methodology of working. We deploy our products continuously and focus on our customers. We believe in highly empowered and self-organized teams. Work is performed in close cooperation with our internal Ericsson customers. We emphasize teamwork, communication, continuous improvement, equal opportunities, and collaboration. We adhere to Ericsson core values -- respect, professionalism, perseverance, and integrity.

What you will do:

- Be part of an agile development team responsible for the development of EQMH software

- Take part in all development tasks for the EQMH software (analyze requirements, systemize, prototype, design, test, troubleshoot, and deploy)

- Continuously maintain and refactor the EQMH SW when needed to ensure high quality

- Collaborate with team members, other BBI design teams, and BBI users in different parts of the world

- Support BBI users

- Upskill yourself to learn and apply new technologies relevant to EQMH software such as cloud computing and secure coding

The skills you bring:

- A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent

- Excellent C++/C programming skills with focus on multi-process/multi-threaded application development

- Good experience in SW development workflow for embedded systems

- Good understanding of manycore computer architectures and real-time systems

- Familiarity in working in a Linux environment

- Experience in working in a Git/Gerrit-based development flow

- Experience working in a CI-based development environment using e.g. Jenkins or similar

- Fluent communication skills in English and Swedish

- A collaborative mindset

Preferred additional skills:

- Experience with EMCA and baseband/radio-application SW development

- Performance analysis and debugging of embedded computing systems
