About this opportunity
Today, Ericsson owns one of the ICT industry's most valuable portfolio of patents. The global patent portfolio consists of 60,000 granted patents within the areas of cellular technology, consumer electronics, cloud, networks and beyond. Ericsson’s Patent Creation Management is part of the global Ericsson GFGS IPR & Licensing Organization and is responsible for all inventions originating from all Ericsson R&D sites all over the world.
We are now expanding our European and North-American teams and looking for motivated patent prosecution attorneys (if in Europe, preferably qualified or partly qualified) looking to contribute to one of the industry’s largest patent portfolios in several of our many patent units all over the world. You will work for a company that is dedicated to research and innovation, leading the development of cellular technology including 5G, 6G and beyond.
What you will do
• Provide IPR support for Ericsson’s R&D operations wherein you will work closely with inventors and innovative technology.
• Take care for handling inventions in all stages from R&D project support, patent application filing and prosecution, and coordination of national filings up to grant in close cooperation with R&D, other patent professionals, and patent offices all over the world.
• Evaluate inventions and take value-based filing and prosecution actions including the drafting of claim charts.
• Depending on the role sometimes participating in key projects supporting licensing and litigation such as participating in patent mining, business driven claim chart generation and rebuttal, participating technical discussions, or work with Reverse Engineering.
• Manage domestic and foreign outside counsel.
• Depending on your location, qualification, and interest you will engage in oppositions, nullity actions, and/or patent portfolio management as the basis for the value creation from our patents.
• Engage in working groups and projects to improve operations and strategies.
You will bring
• A degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Sciences, or equivalent providing a strong technical foundation.
• Proven experience in patents such as Patent Attorney Qualification (also partly qualified) or national Patent Attorney qualification in relevant jurisdictions (e.g. USPTO) or working as a patent examiner or patent engineer & patent portfolio manager in the telecom sector.
• Understanding of telecommunication technologies.
• A keen interest in technical, business and legal matters.
• Previous experience as an inventor, involvement in standardization, or project management will be an advantage.
• Analytical thinking and an eye for detail, paired with a solution-oriented approach.
• Adaptability in various situations and collaborative teamwork, with skills in coordination and communication.
• The ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and activities as a team member.
• The people skills required to work with a diverse group of engineers, attorneys, and paralegals located around the globe.
• The motivation to learn and improve internal processes and tools.
• AI-based drafting skills are a plus.
• Proficiency in English.
